Cochise

Cochise was a Native American. He was a Chiricahua Apache. The Chiricahua Apache were located in New Mexico and Arizona. They were Apache lands until the coming of the Europeans.

        In 1861 a man and his family had been raided by Apaches. They had killed his wife and kidnapped his kid. The 7th Cavalry had called on six Chiefs also with them was Cochise. Their were asked if they had did the crime. They then took them into a tent with a flying flag above it. The Apache’s denied their guilt as they did the commander had them arrested and seized. One Apache was killed. The other four were held and going to be hang later on. Cochise had cut through the side of the tent. When he escaped he had been shot 3 times in his body.

Cochise was a big man with a muscular frame and long black hair. When Cochise was hurt he then got well and wanted ravage on the 7th cavalry.

That same year Cochise had hemmed a small town and had killed 9/10ths of the male population. After that the Apache’s were certain that no more white person would settle in Apache land. In 1862 some California volunteer’s came and brought fire arm. At that time Cochise joined with his father- in- law Magnus Coloradas. As they both held ground Cochise then immediate went into retreat. The fought for two hours then they fled into the hills.

In 1863 Mangos Coloradas was captured by Gen. Joseph Rodman. Mangos were later executed hem. Cochise was still fighting though the 1860’s

Cochise and his band were driven into the Dragoon Mountains. They used the Mountains for cover. The army then used other Apaches as scouts. They were able to force Cochise to surrender. The flowing year Apache’s were ordered to go to reservations in New Mexico but wanted to stay on there ancestral lands.

Cochise was able to escape again and renewed his bands and rated people through out the 1870’s to 1872. Cochise than surrendered in September 1872 where he than stayed in an reservation in Arizona. He died from old age he was 84 years of age.
